Start Healing Today for a Better Tomorrow
Are you living with loss? Are you struggling with chronic illness or pain? Are you a caregiver for a family member? Is depression or anxiety overwhelming you? Seeking therapy can be hard, but by doing so, you have already taken the first step towards healing. I specialize in a variety of areas.
Chronic Illness
As you negotiate the potential serious impacts of a chronic illness and how it might affect your mental health, support from a therapist can be useful. I have more than twenty years of training and experience in this area of practice.
Grief & Loss
Many different and confusing feelings can accompany the experience of a significant loss. Therapy can provide the help and support you need as you process those feelings and try to figure out ways to cope with your loss.
Depression & Anxiety
There are several approaches to therapy that can be useful for depression and anxiety but no one approach works for everyone. It can help you to better understand your feelings and why. You may also learn more useful ways to handle your triggers.
LGBT Issues
As the former Director of Clinical Services at a community mental health center specializing in LGBTQ clients, I would be glad to use my training and experience to help those who struggle with lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender issues.

Alena “Katy” Yankie, LCSW
I have many years of experience serving a variety of clients, including working with people living with HIV or other chronic illnesses, clients and families at the end of life, women’s health, individuals with serious and persistent mental health challenges, and the LGBTQ community. Having my own private practice for over 7 years, I also know it is important for LGBTQ-proficient therapists to be aware of local resources that might be helpful to LGBTQ clients.
One of the biggest predictors of success in therapy is not the techniques or modalities that a therapist uses, although they are important. The most important tool a therapist can use to help a client heal is the quality of the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. It would be an honor to partner with you, and collaborate in developing a strong, healing therapeutic relationship. I invite you to take the first step and contact me. I look forward to talking with you.

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn the light on.”
